A little while ago I posted a track from Burundi: Musiques Traditionnelles. This album was my introduction to what is now called “World Music”.
I have recently learnt from a commenter on the blog that this track, Francois Muduga – Whispered Song (Chante avec Cithare), was used in the soundtrack to the film Hotel Rwanda. So today, to play what the late Charlie Gillett used to call Radio Ping Pong, I’m going to post a track of music from Rwanda (via Belgium!).
The track is Inkindi by Cécile Kayirebwa from her CD Rwanda. Cécile Kayirebwa was born in Kingali in 1946. She moved to Belgium in 1973 and studied music there at the Royal Museum of Central Africa. Over the next ten years she released a series of cassettes and these were compiled into this CD in 1994.
From her website, you can see that Cécile Kayirebwa is still very active, playing concerts in Europe, the USA and Africa.
