First off; apologies for the no show last week. I’m not quite sure what happened – but I know what did not happen!
This week I’m continuing to post from recent acquisitions. Today’s track is taken from Frank Fairfield’s Pawn Records presents Unheard Ofs & Forgotten Abouts – Rare and unheralded gramophone recordings from around the world (1916-1964) – to give it it’s full title.
The album contains a real mix of music including tracks from America, Hawaii, Mexico, Scotland, France, Japan, Java. You want variety – this album has it. And the common denominator, just that all the tracks are taken from Frank Fairfield’s own collection of 78’s.
All the music is interesting and, despite some minor hissing and crackling, it is the music you hear not the imperfections. Credit to producer Michael Kieffer for cleaning up the tracks and transferring them to digital.
I could have chosen any of the tracks to post but have chosen La Bamba by Hermanos Huesca. (Is it true that there was an American college radio station that played versions of La Bamba 27/7?)
