Hank Williams – 40 Greatest Hits

I was trying to think of more records in my collection that feature someone whistling to build a mini series of whistling tracks. I may not have any; certainly I could not think of any immediately. So while I rack my brains a bit more, here is Hank Williams singing (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle from his 40 Greatest Hits

Andy, this is great – it’s cloudy, and I’ve been re-potting the coriander as displacement activity from marking (it hurts me in the back…), and Hank just about does it.

I heard R Williamson and J Renbourn do a version of another of his songs, also with ‘lonesome’ in the lyric, last year, and have sustained my little life on very little else ever since.

I, too, am out of ideas on whistlers. Paul Weller did it once, on one of the tracks on Setting Sons (great album), and I can’t help thinking J Mitchell did so, too. No idea of the track, though. There are great traditions of blues whistlers, I’m told, but I remain ignorant of their names (and they of mine).
