O yeh, forgot. I also found a rather good French radio station, though the talk/journal bits left my schoolboy French way behind. It's called 'france musique' and is at

It sounded like Radio 3 should, ie interested in what it's doing.

Nice track, Andy.

Myself, I'm just back from the Auvergne, and I had a little find. The nearest village to the house was a place called Messiex, which had its fete on the middle Sunday of our stay. It was a quite recognisable scene - old tractors American cars, rope-making, and...music. Live music, by a troupe (Icorande) from a place three villages away, called Eygurande. They're basically an accordian band (not the same as a harmonium, I know, but close enough to a fool like me), and I liked it best when the smaller ensemble played la vielles, brilliant drone-making instruments. I bought the CD, obviously, and have been playing the stones off it ever since.

Their website is at

http://www.icoranda.fr/pagecomplete.html

(For reasons of delicacy, I won't mention the rest of the afternoon, but it involved a rain storm, a roadside bar, cheap Bordeaux, and a patois discussion of rugby with a local butcher.)

Many thanks for the earworm tip and for the blog! I am glad you find the research interesting. Please keep an ear out as I will be returning to Material World later in the year with some results for Quentin. All the best.

Buenos días, Andy - lovely track. Thereby hangs (as ever) a tale. Once upon, when I could still do such things, I was camped out under Naranjo de Bulnes, which is one hell of a rock in the Picos de Europa I had no intention of going up. Some locals were, though, and piped themselves in on what they indicated were Galician pipes.

Quite apart from the football, which was a disgrace, Holland winning might have meant playing a toothsome hit by Focus.
